主唱Natlie Maine在2003年3月10號，美國小布希總統準備出兵伊拉克的緊繃時刻，於倫敦演唱會的現場大分貝的說出:「我們對於美國總統是來自德州的這件事感到羞愧!」此話一出，引發向來保守勢力居眾的美國鄉村樂界一片撻伐，電台抵制播歌，被激怒的樂迷甚至開著堆土機壓碎她們的CD，但是，她們並未因此而退縮，她們在5月初的’娛樂週刊’的封面故事中，以身上印著’驕傲的美國人’、’英雄’、’大嘴巴’、’南方賤人’、’愛國’、’賣國賊’、’海珊的天使’、’大無畏’、’言論自由’、’和平’的赤裸照片展開反擊，強調大家都有表達看法的權利，至於他人要貼什麼樣的標籤在她們的身上都無所謂，她們不會改變，更不想妥協。
2006年年度大碟【Taking The Long Way】是她們在這個爭議事件後的首張作品，Natalie、Martie與Emily在這張專輯裡作了一些破天荒的創舉，這3個德州女子首度參予所有歌曲的創作，她們在歌曲中抒發出道以來最深層，最成熟的情感，還有對政治時勢的一些感受，她們還意外的找來葛萊美獎傳奇製作大師Rick Rubin坐鎮指揮，Rubin一方面為她們籌組了包含了RHCP的鼓手Chad Smith、Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers的吉他手Mike Campbell與鍵盤手Benmont Tench在內的伴奏樂團，此外，還找來葛萊美獎搖滾女聲Sheryl Crow["Favorite Year"]，澳洲搖滾組合Crowded House團員Neil Finn["Silent House"]，前4 Non Blondes嗆女Linda Perry["Voice Inside My Head"]，加州創作才子Pete Yorn["Baby Hold On"]，民謠搖滾樂團Jayhawks大將Gary Lourie["Everybody Knows"]，以及搖滾樂團Semisonic主唱Dan Wilson跟她們一起創作歌曲，Dan總計跟她們合寫了6首歌，其中包括面對2003年言論風暴後，無懼於一切，捍衛己見的強悍搖滾大作"Not Ready To Make Nice"。在這張發揚美國南方搖滾與加州搖滾精神的專輯裡，依然可以感受到 Dixie Chicks表達情感的真誠與細膩，像是看著罹患阿茲海默症的親戚有感而發的"Silent House"，在2005年的卡翠娜颶風後的慈善義唱會中與懷舊派靈魂樂藝人Keb’ Mo’所合寫，邀請葛萊美獎得主John Mayer吉他助陣的流行福音歌曲"I Hope"都是十分動人的作品。Dixie Chicks是一個膽識過人的女子樂團，她們繼續大聲的說出她們的感受!
